Bene Gesserit was a school for females originally
created after the Butlerian Jihad destroyed all
thinking machines. It was indeed one of the two
schools of mental and physical training (the other
being Guild).
Bene Gesserit training included the ability to
control any and every muscle of the trainee's
body -even the most tiny one- so that all the
body's secret possibilities were explored and
used in a combat situation. It was also extremely
important for the B.G. to have their trainees
establish a unique ability of observing things
in a special manner, thus being able ot catch
tiny details that would elude all others.
Two very important aspects in training were Prana
and Bindu. The first signified the consideration
of body's muscles as units for ultimate training,
whereas the latter refered to things related to
the human nervous system, especially in matters
of nerve training.
From the B.G. schools came the women that served
as wives or concubines to the Great Houses rulers
or to the emperor himself. Some very well-trained
and charismatic members of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood
finally became Reverend Mothers(women who had
the power to transform an illuminating poison
within their bodies, raising themselves to higher
states of awareness).
The B.G. carried a human breeding program that
was to last for centuries, through which they
gathered the genes required for the creation of
a Kwisatz Haderach, a male B.G. whose organic
mental powers would bridge space and time. The
program reached its final culmination with Paul
Atreides, but got beyond the B.G. reach, mostly
because of Lady
Jessica's desobedience to the sisterhood.
